Farm

Horsehoe Green Farm is an organic dairy farm that comprises 210 milking cows and 70 heifers.

We are proud to say that the farm has held organic status for over twenty years. By being organic it means we choose not to use any fertilisers or pesticides on our land. Although certainly not the most straightforward approach to dairy farming, we believe it to be the right one. There is a great amount more that we still must discover about our farm and learn how to use our privileged position to positively impact our community and the world around us.

Horseshoe Green Farm has gone through some significant changes in recent years. Four years ago, we decided to invest in a new milking parlour for our organic ladies whilst also improving the main cubicle house, and other areas of the farm. The result of this investment is that we have a much happier herd and a happier farm!

We are committed to the future of the farm and are always on the look out for ways to improve what we do.

A devotion to the land

All forms of farming are coming under increasing scrutiny as the potential that farms have for positively affecting the environment becomes clearer. As dairy farmers, we are fully aware of the negative impact our livestock practices can have on the planet. The challenge to balance our ecological output is not going to be easy to achieve, but we are devoted to our cause and confident of success.

Our mission

In the past year we have been experimenting with more regenerative practices on the farm. We have been composting and plating multi-species leys with the hope of establishing more biodiversity above and below ground whilst also providing our cows with a more balanced and productive diet.

Moving forward our goal is to see how we can manage the grazing of our animals better so that we leave enough grass of the fields in order that the soil is fed enough nutrients. Our mission is to run a profitable farm whilst looking after the land responsibly. You can only do that by farming with the land and with nature, not against it.
