Organic Raw Milk
Organic Raw Milk at Falconhurst
We are thrilled to announce that Organic Raw Milk, produced by Falconhurst’s own organic dairy herd, is now available at the Farm Shop in Markbeech, Edenbridge
There have been dairy cows here on the estate for six generations. To be able to produce something here at Falconhurst, bottle it and then sell it through our Farm Shop feels very special — and is something we are incredibly proud of.
Our Organic Raw Milk is available in 1 litre bottles from the Farm Shop.
And if you'd rather enjoy it while you're here, you can also have our raw milk in your tea or coffee.
So whether you're taking a bottle home for breakfast, pouring it over your morning cereal or enjoying a coffee at the shop, we hope you'll give it a try.
Falconhurst has been a certified organic farm since 2000.
In simple terms, organic farming means that we don't use artificial fertilisers or pesticides on our land. But to us, being organic means much more than that.
As a family, we are strong believers in the principles behind organic farming. We believe it encourages us to farm responsibly, working with nature rather than against it, while looking after the soil, the wildlife and the animals that are all part of the farm.
We think that care is reflected in the food we produce.
What does Organic mean?
The cows and the farm are well cared for by Greg, Jasmine, Bex and Ian.
Greg has been running the farm here, alongside the family, since 2017 and has done an excellent job. His attention to the welfare of the cows is second to none, and we couldn't be luckier to have him, or the rest of the team, with us.
Greg and the team can often be found enjoying a morning coffee at the Farm Shop, so if you see them, be sure to say hello — and thank them for all their hard work.
The farm team
We have a herd of just over 200 cows, made up of a cross breed of Montbéliarde, Viking Red and Holstein. They are charming, inquisitive and full of character, and we couldn't be more fond of them.
Over the years, these breeds have been cross-bred to produce a cow that is well suited to the conditions here at Falconhurst, particularly the heavy clay soils that they spend their lives on.
For the majority of the year, the girls are out grazing our rolling fields, before coming into the farm during the wetter months.
We place a real focus on maintaining diverse grass fields and a healthy, varied farm environment. The cows benefit from a nutritious, forage-based diet, while the way we manage our grassland also supports biodiversity across the wider farm.
What is Raw Milk?
Raw milk is milk that has not been pasteurised or homogenised.
Pasteurisation involves heating milk to reduce potentially harmful bacteria. As our milk isn't pasteurised, it retains its natural character and flavour, while not being homogenised means the cream is free to rise naturally to the top of the bottle.
This is the way our family has drunk milk from our own cows for generations, and we think it is about as good as milk can get.
You'll know you've got the real thing when you see the cream sitting at the top of the bottle. Simply give it a good shake, pour yourself a glass and enjoy.
Raw milk must be handled and stored carefully. Keep refrigerated and follow the storage instructions on the bottle. Raw milk is not suitable for everyone, including certain vulnerable groups.
